- Overview
- Veracruz F/H Veincut travertine is quarried in Mexico. The colors range from light cream to a medium brown with linear movement representing the layers of sediment typical of vein cut travertine. This is a sedimentary stone that is formed in hot springs and is composed of calcite calcium carbonate. All travertine stones will have natural cavities, or pits visible in the stone that developed when carbon dioxide bubbles became trapped during the formation of the stone. Three days prior to honing, this travertine is filled with a colored cement to fill in these cavities. During the dry summer months the cement will cure more quickly than it will during the more humid parts of the year. Because of this fluctuation in curing, it is normal for the tone of the fill to differ between seasons. Finally, a mesh backing is adhered to the back of the stone to ensure safety while handling and fabricating the slab or tile. There can be noticeable variances between pieces, so it is important and recommended that a range of this product be viewed before finalizing a purchase.
