- Overview
- Imperial Danby Honed is quarried from a gallery quarry in Danby, Vermont, USA. This Vermont White marble has a tight structure and is one of the most dense, white marbles in the market. The quarry, which is just outside Danby, Vermont, was opened over 100 years ago. From this quarry Arizona Tile offers Imperial Danby Honed (Calacatta Sunrise), Montclair White Satin and Olympian White Honed. There are three entrances into the mountain. This gallery quarry is the longest of its kind in the world at more than 1-1/2 miles deep. Another unique thing about this quarry is that the factory was built inside the mountain; therefore, there is no need to move the blocks off site for slab production. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. This marble is also known as Calacatta Sunrise Honed.
