Overview
Calacatta Taupe is a cream-colored quartzite with many variations of brown veining throughout. Crisscrossing in erratic patterns, the darkened lines create a bold contrast against the creamy white background. An alternative to marble, Calacatta Taupe’s hard, the resilient surface can be used for kitchen countertops without having the scratching and etching issues experienced with marble. During the polishing process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface of the stone to fill in any natural pits, cracks or fissures that may exist. This does not affect the durability, maintenance, or beauty of the stone. It is possible for some of the more minute pits that are too small to effectively hold the resin, to reopen during other finishing stages. However, this will not detract from the overall quality or appearance of the stone. This is a crosscut quartzite and due to the direction of the cutting of the block, some consecutive slabs may not book match. For projects needing book-matched slabs, it’s important to view the slabs at the branch prior to shipping to the fabricator. Finally, a mesh backing is adhered to the back of the stone to ensure safety while handling and fabricating the slab.
