- Overview
- Calacatta Lincoln Satin marble is quarried from a bedrock gallery quarry in Aspen, Colorado. A gallery quarry is when they tunnel into the mountain carving out a large opening or room as they remove the blocks. The main gallery quarry, which is closed, is over 100 years old and was once owned by the Rockefellers and supplied marble for the Lincoln Monument. The current gallery which is located higher on the mountain is 10 years old and uses modern extraction methods to remove the blocks. Calacatta Lincoln Satin has a white background with grey veins which varies from thin to wide. It is quarried crosscut which gives this stone a dramatic look when used in a book match installation. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern.
